DEHO

DIDIA EDUCATION AND HEALTH ORGANIZATION

Welcome ( Bienvenue | Karibu) to DIDIA EDUCATION AND HEALTH ORGANIZATION

A significant proportion of communities in low- and middle-income countries are adversely affected by lack of/or inadequate education and health services due to their unprivileged background, sporadic, epidemic and endemic diseases, wars, or extreme poverty. We recognize education and health, especially in their combination, as major instruments for human excellence in development. Our organization integrates both educational/educative and health/health care- related projects to divulge the dimensions of problems hindering human socio-economic development and implement initiatives to address them. We primarily focus on the most vulnerable and marginalized populations comprising of children, women, disabled people, refugees and chronically/severely sick as well as socio-economically poor groups from sub-Saharan Africa and various local and international regions within low and the middle-income spectrum as categorized by the World Bank. Our secondary target may include marginalized groups from the rest of the world, in collaboration with partners according to international protocols and agreements between and/or among counterparts. We are entitled to operate under the Tanzania NGOs Act of year 2002, National NGOs Policy, 2001, NGOs, Act, (Cap 56), as well as the National Social Security Policy (2003). Themes from these laws and policies encompass our intent and capacity to carry out community service activities related to education as well as health projects and programs concomitantly.

VISION & MISSION

VISION
We envisage a world with educated and healthy people, who can overcome poverty and live a socially and economically happy life.

MISSION
Our mission is to serve people in the poorest communities of low- and middle-income countries through education and health. We target sustainable development through:
Exploring core problems facing access to and/or quality education
Proposing and implementing education promoting innovations
Unveiling core problems facing health and/or health education and health care facilities
Suggesting and implementing health service initiatives
Influencing policy and corroborating government and other development stake holders’ efforts to improve human life through education and health

RESEACH PROJECTS

DEHO couples educational and health approaches to explore core problems facing socio-economic development among unprivileged populations. We are devoted to seek solutions for fundamental problems afflicting health and education of our people within our local context and beyond. Among others, our current research projects include the following:
1. Bioprospecting of microorganisms for the discovery of drugs and nutritional products. The goal of this project is to unveil organisms that carry genetic fingerprints for production of therapeutics and nutritional substances that will aid to tackle infectious, metabolic health and malnutrition in low and middle-income countries. Here we are deploying a combination of state-of-the-art approaches in the ‘’omics’’ realm to discover novel strains of bacteria, viruses and/or fungi that can offer compounds with relevance to health (Maghembe et al., 2023; Maghembe et al., 2023) ,
2. Functional genomics of ESKAPE pathogens. This is a group of pathogens with rapidly evolving drug resistance. We are deploying molecular, biochemical and chemical methods to establish the genetic profiles of pathogens from East Africa and establish how much risk they pose to our population for better management. We hereby collaborate with teams from within and outside the country to access and analyze samples from the environment as clinical specimens.
